About the Grafton Community Solar Project

Pollinator friendly plantings amidst a community solar project

Grafton Community Solar will be online by the end of 2019. It will produce 470,000 kilowatt hours of electricity for owners in Grafton and the surrounding communities. This locally owned and managed renewable energy project will make solar power accessible to local individuals and businesses who have barriers to installing on their own buildings and sites.

The Benefits of Owning Community Solar:

  • The panels are in an ideal location for maximum production
  • Green Mountain Power pays more for the power generated at the Community Solar field because it is utilizing a previously contaminated site
  • No ongoing costs. Repair and maintenance is included in the share cost.
  • You don't have to own a home or land
  • If you move you can take it with you
  • If you need cash, you can sell it
  • It supports Vermont's goals of renewable energy and fighting climate change
  • It makes our towns' electrical system stronger and more resilient and contributes to school taxes
  • The energy produced will directly credit to your GMP account
  • Qualifies for tax credits just as it would if on your home or business
  • Solar credit value is tied to GMP electrical rates, making you immune to rising costs

The Site

The panels for Grafton Community Solar are located at 3992 Saxtons River Rd. in Cambridgeport, behind the industrial building. The site has been designated a preferred site for solar by both the town of Grafton and the Windham Regional Planning Commission because of its low visibility, low environmental impact and effective use of formerly contaminated industrial land.
